Position Overview

The Cancer and Blood Disorder Program at Childrens Minnesota is seeking a full-time Pediatric Hematologist to join a well-established and growing practice. The ideal candidate would have a dedicated interest in hematology, with specific interest in hemostasis and thrombosis.

The person in the Physician role will be responsible for meeting, assessing and diagnosing patients in a Children's hospital setting and provide them with healthcare services that meet state and national standards for caregiving. Responsible for prescribing patients with appropriate medication, health regimens and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to their recovery from diagnosed health issues, prevent future health issues and/or promote a healthier life.

Responsibilities include primarily hematology care, although oncology coverage is required for weekend call, teaching fellows, residents and medical students, and community outreach education.

Department Summary

Childrens Minnesota is the 10th largest Childrens Hospital in North America. Our pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders program is currently composed of over 200 dedicated professionals including 21 physicians and 15 nurse practitioners as well as nurse case managers, pharmacists, rehabilitation therapists, dieticians, genetic counsellors, social workers, child life experts, interpreters, home care and hospice specialists.

The department at Children's of Minnesota provides care for children of all ages with all types of malignancies including brain tumors, solid tumors, and leukemia; and blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and anemia. As the largest provider of services for children with cancer and bleeding disorders in the region, the Cancer and Blood Disorders program focuses on providing well-coordinated knowledge-driven clinical care. We participate in national and international research and are leaders in research on supportive care and quality of life for children with cancer and bleeding disorders.

We have 6 hematologists, 3 hematology nurse practitioners and 7 hematology nurse case managers. Our Hematology Program is the largest in the state with an average of over 1000 new consults per year. We have a nationally recognized hemoglobinopathy program specializing in both sickle cell disease and thalassemia. We are the site of the largest pediatric Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) in Minnesota. Within the HTC, we have a combined hematology/gynecology clinic and a comprehensive stroke clinic.

We provide care at two hospital sites in the Twin Cities and as well as in infusion centers in central Minnesota and western Wisconsin

Childrens Minnesota is a teaching hospital to medical students, residents and fellows from the University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic. Academic inquiry and research are highly valued, but not required. We have a strong clinical trial program with a dedicated hematology research nurse and clinical research assistant.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, clinical research and clinical care.
